Kaolin is one of the important raw materials commonly used in the production of vehicle-mounted honeycomb ceramics, and is favored because of its good plasticity, fire resistance and chemical stability. When preparing honeycomb ceramics of the sixth national standard, the quality and performance parameters of kaolin have a great impact on the final properties of honeycomb ceramics.
At present, the kaolin used in vehicle-mounted honeycomb ceramics is mostly imported kaolin. In order to further improve the localization of substitution, Shanghai Panshi joint universities and research institutes conduct directional research and development. At present, the developed "Little Bee" series of honeycomb ceramics special kaolin has a reasonable particle size distribution, low potassium and sodium content, reflecting the characteristics of strong plasticity, high sintering strength, low sintering shrinkage rate, and low expansion.
Moderate SiO2 (silica) content makes honeycomb ceramics have high thermal stability, and higher Al2O3 content helps to improve the compressive strength and wear resistance of ceramics. The CaO content should be low to reduce the expansion and shrinkage problems during sintering. Ultra-low K2O (potassium oxide) and Na2O (sodium oxide) content solves the expansion and melting problems during the sintering process of honeycomb ceramics.
Typical parameters are as follows:
